Lisa’s Story

Lisa at the start of her storyAlmost 3 years ago, a routine blood test at my Ophthalmologist started this journey. I hadn’t eaten but my blood glucose was high. Later that same day my doctor confirmed the diagnosis – Type 2 diabetes…  I was put on medication straight away.

That first day I was depressed. How could I let this happen? I knew the risks. My mother and aunt had Type 1 diabetes from infancy and they died within 8 months of each other at 35 and 26 respectively. Once I realized I couldn’t ignore it and being depressed wasn’t going to help, I met with my doctor and told her I had no intention of living on medication – “doctors must have figured out by now how to manage this disease.”

Nicole’s Story

Nicole 2
Hello everyone!

Nicole shares her journey towards her weight loss and healthy eating:

I have been battling with weight all my life. As I got older, I realised that my chances of developing diabetes were increasing, especially since my dad was a type 1 diabetic. Thus, i decided to do some preventative work by attending the gym.

I tried with the gym for many years with little to no results. Then I thought I would try a dietitian. I contacted Julian in September 2014. On my first visit I was 198lbs. Julian listened as I explained my issues and she reassured me that it was possible to lose the weight. Although skeptical of how it would work, I started my meal plan. The first couple of weeks were challenging however, Julian was only a WhatsApp message away to offer support especially those days I felt I would give up.

Lisa’s Story

During my annual medical, the doctor informed me that my cholesterol level was 5.4 – mildly elevated above the maximum of 5.2. I already had a committed exercise routine and I thought I could address this issue on my own with a few alterations to my diet. When I returned to the doctor three months later, my cholesterol level was 5.6 – so much for my solo efforts. I was adamant that I was not going on maintenance medication.

Julian Rowe of Bajan Diet Designs was recommended to me by my brother as I sought to address this “mildly elevated cholesterol level”.
